Does anyone give a shirt?

About the Oscars? It is a little like the recent Super Bowl. Sure, people in Pittsburg and that other city were excited, and you imagine the people nominated for Oscars were excited, but with only a couple of exceptions, this was, in the opinon of this blog, pretty dull stuff.
I have seen Slumdog. It is a great movie but also extremely difficult to watch. People say 'oh, its a love story, its about overcoming' but it is also about some of the most horrible things children can endure. And worse. I suppose it was the best of the bunch.
I can imagine Sean Penn earned his Oscar. Fair enough.
Heath Ledger, DEFINATELY, the poor guy...
and Penelope Cruz is super cute. I don't know anything about that movie, but in my mind, she wins based on her...you know.

In the category of 'who gives a shirt about Gary?' let's just say that it is 11 degrees outside and snowing, and I have gotten a mildly terrible cold. The slightly runny nose, the vaguely sore throat. I wanted to have some fun and go to the grocery store, and later entertain friends. I think I will hole up with the household heat turned high, my lamb's wool scarf tightly tied around my neck, and make little bunnies and such. Your sympathy is welcome.
(it has been several months of NO COLDS--my friends must be impressed)

My warmest greetings/sympathy to someone enduring an icy 11°F (that's -11°C, sounds awfully cold).

We all complained that Belgium has been enduring the coldest winter in two decades, but living in a place where anything below freezing is considered "real cold" I can only sympathize.

As for the Oscars: by the time they were broadcasted Europe was sound asleep.

Peter in Antwerp, Belgium currently at 41°F/+5°C

41 degrees? That is so unfair!

HA! I completely forgot that the Oscars were last night. Ledger won, did he? That Joker was incredible.

Gary, if it makes you feel any better, we're pretty close to you: -10C/14F

Wind chill of 18-F this morning here, but sunny with interesting clouds. I think our high temp will be 35 degrees?

Oscars are for movie buffs who care about Hollywood. I'm neither, although I did look at the news page with the major winners.

So Gary, have you given up on taking honey with vinegar, or whatever it is that is supposed to keep you from getting colds?

Sorry your feeling under the weather.

I did not see the movie. But I am thinking he [Heath Ledger] got that Oscar as a result in his death. Just my humble opinion.

I felt the Ocscars were boring this year, and I was glad I had Tivo so I did a lot of FF>>

Stay warm! Spring has got to spring soon!!

It would be fine to watch if you or your friends were in the running for an award, but otherwise, whatevah.

That's chillier than it is here by a bit, so you have my sympathies. I thought I had a cold coming on yesterday, since my nose was like a faucet. But things seem to be better today. Might I suggest a Neti pot? They do work wonders once you get the hang of it.

Hope you feel better. No Oscars watching for me last night. Decided to curl up with a book instead.

I havn't seen a TV in years, we don't own one. But I am a keen student of celebrity. At least, the celebrities that I like, such as Heath or Penolope. Didn't she have a thing once with the other one named Cruise? That was poor judgement.
AND YES, I drink that cider vinegar and honey every day which is why I have been so healthy so long this year. Maybe my body was looking for an excuse to stay bed today, and therefore turned on the runny nose.

Poor baby... you need to rest and drink plenty of fluids. If you were here in Houston, it would be about 65 at lunchtime today.

Rest, rest, rest!

My wife had the oscars on when I went to bed. I covered my head and went to sleep.

I do hope that you feel better Gary.

Here's something to cheer you up:
I ate my cheerios out of a Gary Rith bowl and drank my coffee out of a Gary Rith mug.
It made for a happy breakfast. :)

It's in 50's and near 60 here all this week. Does that make you feel better? No? Damn. ;-)

Penelope is damn cute. I doubt I'll see that movie though.

I'm sure Sean Penn was great in "Milk," but I really wanted Frank Langella to win for "Frost/Nixon." He was really amazing in that film, which is a great movie BTW.

I watched the whole damn thing last night. Yes, it was boring for the most part. They're too stiff. They needed John Stewart or Chris Rock to loosen them up. That's probably why they didn't have either of them host anymore. They don't want to loosen up. They take themselves soooooo seriously.

I know you're gonna hate me for this, but...I don't like Penelope Cruz. I just don't. Don't ask me why - but I can't stand her. I can't stand that other one either - whatshername...Anne Hathaway? Is that her name.

We only watched last night till I couldn't stay awake any longer and that was about 45 minutes into it.

*Denis - Did you forget to send Celeste something for Valentines Day? Perhaps she's trying to make you a little jealous...???

I think Chris Rock is hysterical and would want to see him perform. And they could give Anne Hathaway an Oscar for Rachel Getting Married, I like Kate W, but puhlease.....

Hope the cold goes away fast. Rum in hot lemon water helps.

Ugh, get better soon! I don't blame you for bundling up when it's soo cold, and on top of that having a cold. cheers.

Reading down, catching up on your posts, smiling and trying to laugh as the man-cold cuteness leaps out off my screen.

We should keep it quiet but I'm actually quite good at man-cold stuff too.

It was too windy to work today so they sent me home. It was just as well as I have recurring bronchitis. I spent most of today in bed. Tomorrow, it's back to work, unless, of course, the wind doesn't let up.
