NEWD!TY

(pottery by Gary Rith)

So like I say, in 8th grade Mr Bull and Mr Groves were asking me what I wanted to do when I grew up and I said "ARTIST!" and Mr Bull sez "Cause he wants to look at nekkid ladies all day!".
You never forget stuff like that, esp. when it IS true and when it BECOMES true.
So, in the spirit of the French painter Bougereau, here is a nekkid vase. I am thinking that YES, little dishes or bowls with wide rims for them to cavort upon would be good too.....

MASTER AND SERVANT!

Mmmmmmm, 80s new wave goodness!

my piggy's world tour.....

SOOO a friend and customer from Texas goes overseas and my little piggy pencil stows away....
last seen in Leeds train station, Yorkshire, UK, now sighted in Cleavage Under Blouse, North Yorkshire, UK....

the first crush I had in sixth grade

I am supremely pleased with this glaze firing just unloaded. I really dig this black and blue spotted combo.
And my pal Lynda had said "hey, make a glaze color wheel!" and sadly it didn't photograph clearly, but I made cat tiles and used all 14 of my glazes to give customers an idea of what I can use. I won't, however, use the pink, for example, on anything but pigs. I don't like pink cups or vases.

So yesterday the missus was on the road visiting her sister and I picked her up at the bus stop after midnight. Twas a good day here, walking Penny to exhaustion, watching episodes of the Office....AND

Remember sixth grade? I know. Who would want to go there? Anyway, out of the BLUE I get this friend request on facebook, and it is the first crush I had in 6th grade! (I had, um, quite a few crushes--I loved girls, but she was the first that year--she was so cute). ANYWAY, funny thing is, she has been living in New Zealand and....just moved in down the street. IN THIS TOWN. Funny funny world......

Penny and her boyfriend Buddy the Basset Hound...

My missus is in Manhattan and Goofy Kim came over for a bit and we went over to the Cornell Plantations, miles of paths and hundreds of acres of millions of gardens and plants.
Penny met up with a basset. She was QUITE taken with Buddy, that sexy dawg....and he barked and slobbered and it was one of those houndish things....

le pig!

So this little cutie goes on sale at my online gallery and just think how popular YOU will be when this ends up under the Christmas tree....

In other news, the missus goes to NY city this morning, back late tonight. I think goofy Kim will be comoing over, as she heard I had made triple chocolate cookies. People travel far and wide for my triple chocolate cookies....
I may have to watch GHOST BUSTERS later....

Dreamt I was the star player for the Tajikistan national soccer team...and I was GOOD. In the dream I had scored a goal in the championship but then we were tied at the half.....I have never NEVER played soccer in my life, but you know how it is in dreams....

Sonic Youth

Starring, of course, Kim Gordon, the CUTEST over 50 year old woman on earth....

news from the HOFF

David Hasselhoff is planning a UK Baywatch. The radio found the idea amusing, as British beaches are, um, not exactly sunny and warm 24-7-365.
Frankly, anything to do with the Hoff is amusing, and as a matter of coincidence, the wife was conversing with me this morning about men and their hairy bellies. Hoff = hairy !
On the other hand, if you truly love New Order and CHICKS IN BIKINIS, and I do, you'll enjoy this TOTP New Order song on the set of the original Baywatch.....

bowlies!

I have always gotten a kick out of that reverse expression.....

don't try this at home!

Long story short, I drop the wife at work and there's this dude who does a reggae show on the radio Thursday mornings, and he is a total NITWIT....with great taste is music. I suspect he must, you know, sm0ke a little too much and when he talks he has a hard time stringing together thoughts.....but man, reggae you have NEVER heard.
He does a lot of dub too.
You ask, as I did, "what is dub???". Dub is just a lot of reggae grooves put together, no singing, and it is the COOLEST background music, so I poke around youtube for dub and come up with this, and HOLY CATS it is unbelieveable---but don't try it at home! Where can you get a wave like this????

midsummer!

I was realizing tis exactly midsummer and the flowers around the house are looking quite good, esp. the hostas in front, a nice purply color matching the house.....

speaking of spots....

(pottery by Gary Rith)
I had this glaze test (black with bluish spots) come out the other day and I LOVE it. So much that I wanted to make a bunch of plain mugs, black with spots (no added dog or other thing) and set them in the sun to quick dry then add the handles and trim and DONE, along with the other stuff going on....

Spike the tastemaker

My cat Spike is often asked advice. He suggested we try to clear up a bunch of issues at once, so we can all get on with our lives:

"Shaken or stirred?
Do I look like I give a damn whether anything is shaken or stirred???

Briefs or boxers?
COMMANDO.

Yankees or Red Sox?
Tigers!

Cowboys or Steelers!
Pfft! Jaguars, Panthers, Bengals and Lions!

Blonde or brunette?
Calico, meooowwwr!

London or Paris?
Mais oui mon petit escargot!

Cats or dogs?
Guinea pigs, whaddya think!!!!!

Country or city?
Phhblllt. I am an inside cat. So I would say: windowsill.

Coffee or tea???
Catnip!

Garfield or Bill?
Please.

Breast or thigh?
CANNED!!!!
"

spicy........................

(pizza and dove mug by Gary Rith)
In the quest for new and improved pizza, I found myself asking
"why not Mexicanish? Wherefore art thou black beans, whither those hot peppers???"
and really, you can dump anything on there and holy CATS its good. I think I shall make 2 of these tonight, which would leave a spare for Thursday and means the same thing for dinner 3 nights running....

As for the dove mug, I was making it and asked the missus
"what's a good animal for a dark green mug?" and she is like
"a dove!" even though I had never MADE a dove before, but I figured it out....

cleanse the palate a little with ANVIL---the real deal when it comes to codpieces, zebra tights and big hair on guys.....

"you drank the bugs????"

So we are goin' to the show (movies) and wanna stop in for a wee little drop first and so we go to the Chapter House which has done a little redocorating (the rat has moved and where did the tiger come from, and somebody threw some of the junk out and dusted a little--the place is still plenty dirty though :)
and I am between sips and milady is looking in my glass and fruit flies ae kinda buzzing around and a couple, maybe 5, have drowned in my glass and she is like
"ick!"
and I am like
"watch me!"
and vegetarian that I am, I finished my drink....

le pigs

(jumbo piggy banks by Gary Rith)
Just realizing I have been making piggies for 20 years. 20!!!! I love them.
I was asked for a jumbo pig. Most of my piggy banks are about 5 inches tall by 5 inches long. These are about 8 by 8 inches.

le dawg

(pot by Gary Rith)
So this was a black glaze test, and lookit how the 2nd glaze looks, the brushed spots!!!!!
People may see me make this punky dawg sometimes that doesn't look like my beagle or lab, and has an eye spot. That's because I love the Little Rascals dog Petey, who we named our first dog for, although he was a tough little brown dawg......

going GOTH or maybe metal?

(Gary Rith and Spike, cup by Gary)
Didja know that the sky this time of year is brightening long before 5 am? Penny was rolling around in bed and I sent her out for a big poo and there were all these bats outside, no birds yet, and the French roast was hot and fresh and so I am UP and blobbing!
WE bumped into John and Stephanie the other day with their new baby Joseph. They live in that yellow house and have Penny's arch enemy--the greyhound named Ava. Hard to believe an adorable little beagle would have an enemy, but they are NOT friends...
anyway, John has the little baby in a skull and crossbones snugli which is hilarious. He told Steph no way was he gonna wear some wimpy, uncool baby carrier....
Skulls and such are VERY big these days, esp., I think, cute ones. I am ON IT.
This just came out of the kiln, a glaze test of a black glaze called licorice from my dear friends Nick and Miri....OMG, the glaze sez it is the closest thing to a perfect and trouble free glaze and tis true.....

one bourbon....

Gracie and I were discussing the lyrics to George Thorogood;s song and here tis from the horses' mouth...
