our hero Patrick Swayze checks in

Here at this blog, we have our heros. Christopher Reeve was COOL. He was a good actor, but the second phase of his life, where he pushed research on trauma victims and spinal cord injuries (etc) was pretty darn incredible. His wife was something else too, adhering to the old fashioned idea (perhaps unusual in Hollywood) of married in sickness and health.

Patrick Swayze is probably this blog's biggest hero. The dude is creative, talented, has a rocking great smile, and unusual for Hollywood, met and married his teenage love and HAS STAYED TOGETHER. For over 30 years. Not everybody can be so lucky, but he has his head screwed on straight, and now he says he is gonna kick cancer's a$$. My understanding has always been that pancreatic cancer is often the most deadly type, but Patrick is still on the move and undefeated and WE LOVE HIM.

I saw Christopher out with his family in the village a few years ago. I remember looking at my brother and saying "That's Superman!" I didn't do that within earshot but as we walked past he looked at me and I remember thinking I have never seen sparkling blue eyes like that in my life. He was a really inspiring force in his lifetime.

Oh yes - I'm going to watch the Barbara Walters Special tonight at 10pm. (actually - I'm going to TAPE the BWS tonight at 10pm! I'll be sleeping!)

I loved the movie Dirty Dancing. "So how do you call - Your lover boy???" when he and Jennifer Grey were practicing...(swoon).

If I could? I would give the man some of my triple chocolate cookies. I don't share those with just anybody.

We were speaking the other day at my house, about how certain people played roles in movies so well, that to see them remade, is wrong... Superman will always be Christopher Reeve in my book.

Patrick Swayze, has always kept himself in good shape and I think he is right, he will beat cancer down and spit on it.
