He was certainly influential in the Glam punk movement.
I would still look to The Stooges, and their first album in 1969.
Stooges related personal anecdote: Joan Jett was playing here locally, and I was about 10 feet from the stage. She looked at me, and I screamed at her "I want to be your dog!" So they played the Stooges song, then Gary Ryan whipped his guitar pick at me and I caught it.
I was just talking last night about how I would LOVE to go to a David Bowie show!
