Gwyneth and ME

I like Gwyneth's mom Blythe a great deal. She was in To Wong Foo with Love from Julie Neumar's, and also stars with Gwyneth in Sylvia, which we were gonna watch last night. Daniel Craig, more recently of Bond fame etc, plays the pathetic and rotten poet husband who causes her to stuff her head in the oven and turn on the gas.
ANYWAY, it is a long standing fact that I cannot bear Gwyneth. I try. But Shakespeare in Love???? Maybe the most pretentious movie ever. I wanted to enjoy Sylvia, I really did, because Sylvia Plath's story is fascinating. Daniel Craig may have had irritating hair, that's a minor thing that can be changed, but there is something about Gwyneth's voice and demeanor that is like fingernails on the chalk board. She just sounds so smug, so snooty, so beautiful-blonde-born-with-it-all.
So, I wandered off and left my wife to endure the rest of it.

She's very good in Iron Man, Gary. Running with Scissors as well, but she doesn't have a huge part there.

Who would I rather watch? Maybe Kirsten Dunst, Reese Witherspoon or Renee Zellwegger.

I simply can't watch her without saying "Oh, look, it's Gwnyeth Paltrow." Meh.

I don't know her, but the roles that she chooses certainly are the pretentious ones. The "Oh, look, another Oscar nomination" type movies that are times to peak at the box office just when the academy votes.

I find I'm more of a fan of the movies that the academy would never go see just on principle, that also happen to be darn good. Then, by popular acclaim, the academy must eat crow and admit that the movie us miscreants loved should have received the award rather than another canned Merchant and Ivory boring weepy snog fest.

But... That is just me.

I don't mind Gwenyth, but I hated Shakespeare in Love. I'm glad I'm not the only one!

It's interesting how differently we both perceive Gwyneth Paltrow. Whereas you see smugness and pretention, I see a quiet sophistication.

I've always liked Reese Witherspoon, but Renee Zellwegger . . . talk about fingernails on a chalkboard. However, I did enjoy her performance in Cold Mountain.

And Kirsten Dunst?? I'm curious as to what movie of hers you find particularly compelling. ;-)

I can't stand Gwyneth. She was good in Iron Man though. And I do think she is outrageously beautiful. But, she's not very nice.

When I lived in San Antonio she, Matt Damon, Ben Afleck and Wynona Rider were all staying in a fancy apartment complex while shooting a movie. Or some of them were in the movie, I can't remember.

Anyway, they were all out at the pool when these two air force officers (husband and wife) who also lived there came out. They all started talking and Gwyennie just got up and went inside. She couldn't be seen talking to such commoners. Matt Damon and Wynona stayed out there and talked to them for a long time though. They were cool.

Those two air force people were in my brother in law's squadron. That's how I heard about all this.

BTW, I put Kristen Dunst in my celebrity death pool. Just wishful thinking. ;-)

Frankly, Kirsten and esp. Renee Z are totally cute. Scarlett Johanssen, btw, seems like a very nice person, but there is something a little......I dunno about her. Anne Hathaway is totally cute too. And Kate Hudson.
BUT OF COURSE NONE OF THEM HAS ANYTHING ON MY PETITE YASTYCAKE.

Hoop and I can't stand either of those two. But Craig is by far the worst. Hoop and I like to mimic his weird pout whenever we see a promo poster of him. I guess it's his signature look. But it makes him look ridiculous.

I can't decide about Anne Hathaway. Sometimes she looks weird. I mean, her legs always look perfect, so that's a plus. But, she seems like she's pretty damn cute most of the time.

What are your thoughts on Kate Beckinsale? I think she's freaking awesomely hot.

Anatomy of a Starlet...Rated R

Renee Z creeps me out, too.

I think it's the name. Gwyneth?
or maybe those insipid headlines on the cover of People?
Your pottery is beautiful and your blog is funny. I say Mrs. Tastycakes has it good ;) with the cookies, and all.

I've never been much of a fan of Shakespeare in Love. I still don't understand how it won Best Picture over Saving Private Ryan. I love Gwyneth AND her mother! To Wong Foo is a favorite of mine. I also loved Blythe in Meet the Parents. She's so gorgeous!! I wasn't a fan of Sylvia either... and I wanted to love it too!!

Your description of Gwyneth is spot on. Can't stand her....don't know why she gets any roles except maybe they keep hoping she will become as great an actress as her mother is.

OH YES, Kate Beckinsale. Can you say "underworld"?

I've always been a fan of Blythe, but have never been a fan of Gwyenth. I too feel she is a snob and I could never stand to see her in anything. Although, I did like her in Iron Man also.
Hmmm..... maybe she is becoming a better actress, but will always be pretentious? Probably!

I was a fan of Blythe Danner back when she was singing in Broadway musicals like "1776"

Oooooh, Daniel Craig. I might have to steal that picture and post it at my place -- not, not the blog -- I'm thinking my bathroom vanity. :-)
