The Mount

We stopped at Hot Harry's Burritos in Lee, Massachusetts. As a vegetarian you are wary of road food--I mean, what are ya gonna be able to eat? But western Mass has so many tourists it also has so many restaurants and bars and we had some good choices, but Hot Harry's is superb. SUPERB! And there are buckets of salsa on the counter, so you can get some salsa, then get some more salsa....my wife probably didn't want me to post this, but all I can say is that a blogger with a camera is a dangerous thing.
The Mount is of course a mansion, and it has a little pet cemetery because Edith Wharton loved her little doggies. YES, there are carved stones for them...
and as a mansion, even one that has been through a wringer over time, you can see that the old bell system is still there in the servants quarters! Edith Wharton wrote about 40 books in 40 years, she was very busy, and wrote in bed every morning with her coffee and dogs, then went riding in the afternoon.

Her married name "Wharton" is also attached to one of the most respected business schools in the US: The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Sure wish a few of those alumni would donate to preserve the Mount...
