Junk
Just watched 300. On the one hand, there is lots of satisfying sword play and fighting and gore. Honor and glory, blah blah blah. Plus there are one or two brief moments of gorgeous women is silky gowns.
On the other hand, you kinda roll your eyes at the "freedom is not free" crapola. This is the sort of myth-making propaganda that weak politicians love to roll out so that young people will enlist to fight old mens' wars. Germany in the 1930s, for example, pushed a lot of this baloney propaganda about knights and honor and history.
This is the type of movie that is supposed to get garbage men and insurance salesmen sitting in their lazee boyz excited. Plus there is the h0m0er0tic aspect of a bunch of dudes in little leather speedos with bulging, sweaty muscles....
Junk.
But maybe I am reading too much into it, maybe its just a slick retelling of an historic battle (missus wandered off after 5 minutes, of course.....)

I think that's a pretty good assessment. And for those who don't like the warmongering and h0m0er0tic aspects, there are always the gratuitous boob shots. ;)
I've never watched this movie, but the whole violence thing never appealed to me. A friend of ours was so moved by the film, however, that he got '300' tattooed on his body, so there's got to be at least something good about it. I don't know. *confused*
mmmm...my review is not terribly articulate, so let me put it this way:
although I can enjoy a movie like Conan the Barbarian a great deal, there is a certain type of pumped up, agressively macho attitude that I despise. And the whole 'tossing out imperfect babies and training little boys' thing--feels like H!tler youth to me....
I liked Sin City from these guys though
Ya, you are right, this movie was utter crap.
I had no desire to see this movie at all, sounded way too violent. But I would have to put the "h0m0er0tic aspect of a bunch of dudes in little leather speedos with bulging, sweaty muscles" on the first hand and not the second.
Oh man ... I loved this movie!
I thought it should have won an Academy Award.
They do have a "Best Unintentional Comedy" category, don't they? I'm pretty sure I wasn't supposed to, but I LMAO throughout that movie. ;-)
I totally agree, and I think I may be the only one, but I thought the graphics were really bad.
Well said. It was more than articulate enough and I couldn't agree more. Shiny gold star for you.
;)
South Park did an excellent parody of this movie...in this case, the Persians are taking over nightclubs in Los Angeles. The episode guide is called "D-Ykes!" and aired in season 11.
