You just cannot RESIST making cute stuff. In 1985 I had a job working for an artist on Wooster St in Soho and I lived and worked with the family. I made some sort of sculpture of a smiling fish in my own time, and the artist's 16 year daughter said
"mom, why don't you make cute stuff like Gary's?"
and the artist curled her lip in disgust.....

Listen, when a piece of pottery saunters up casually, taps you on the shoulder and says "Hellooo!"Whatcha doin?" what else can you do but put your hand in your purse or pocket and reply, "Why, I'm takin' YOU homw with me, that's what!"
