freaking COLD!
I am not macho, and I don't say 'we won't turn on the heat until November 1' and I am going to give in soon (34 outside? and inside, I DON'T WANT TO KNOW! WHAT HAPPENED TO AUGUST????).
We got Penny 2 springs ago, and she has a thin coat compared to our Labrador retrievers. We settled her in a deluxe basket with a blanket next to the bed when she moved in, with toys. She would sleep there, but she would also jump into bed and she has these eyes....and she would roll over and show her belly.....I SAID NO DOGS IN BED!
She was around age 2 when she moved in with us and had been a stray, and you get the feeling that in her past life, whereever that was, she had not been mistreated and she had also gotten used to sleeping in a bed.
We caved after 3 1/2 weeks. Penny is a beagle, and beagles burrow. She sleeps under the covers at night, between us (beagles are cuddly but maybe not good for a romantic couple, ahem) and she is HOT and TOASTY. One 19 pound beagle is like August sunshine under the covers.

I wouldn't be able to say no to those eyes either!!!
I think the way to ease our energy consumption and cost is for everyone to have a beagle in his or her own bed at night. That way, we could turn off the heat completely and save so much! I slept in Bridget's bed with her last night (she has another wretched cold), and we were like a pretzel with our bodies intertwined. That's probably the first time I've every been so grateful to sleep with a kid, although . . . my throat is beginning to feel a little scratchy! Our new furnace can't get here fast enough. My hands are freezing!!
I am not only frozen, but I think the runny nose is BACK....and I do have heat on now...
Love your work Gary!If I bought everything I love though My house wouldnt be ehre *LOL* But who knows Christmas is comming.Love the doggies too.I have 2 a westie and border collie.

UGH! I didnt think the fist comment was posted.Nice to meet you lol.
Haven't turned the heat on yet here, Gary. I refuse.
Only the cats get on the bed here. Although - when it gets cold enough, I'll probably invite the doggies. ;)
The coldest it's been is 37 outside and 63 inside. But the back of the house faces South so it does stay a little warmer.
I have to ask permission of Momma Kitty, or, at least, rearrange her body to allow for mine to lie down next to her every night. I turn back the covers and before I can turn around she's already arranged herself. Very hand, though, on chilly nights such as we've been having lately. Hate the thought of the winter ahead, though. Argh!
No heat here yet, but then I'd rather bundle up than feel forced heat. I just don't like that feeling. Nice, warm puppy in the bed though - can't beat that!
Hope your runny nose is taking a vacation today. ;0)
I have dosed myself with magic GINGER tea and feel most good, thanks.
It took you that long to let the pup in the bed??? Olivia has been a staple in our bed since we got her. She curls very nicely at the feet, keeping them toasty warm
Oh, I feel bad for y'all. It's in the sunny, warm 80s here! Snuggle up! Keep Penny at the feet for a good foot warmer!
Oh I read this yesterday and I thought of you...
1. The beagle is not allowed in the house.
2. Okay, the beagle is allowed in the house, but only in certain rooms.
3. The beagle is allowed in all rooms, but has to stay off the furniture.
4. The beagle can get on the old furniture only.
5. Fine, the beagle is allowed on all the furniture, but is not allowed to sleep with the humans on the bed.
6. Okay, the dog is allowed on the bed, but only by invitation.
7. The beagle can sleep on the bed whenever he wants, but not under the covers.
8. The beagle can sleep under the covers by invitation only.
9. The beagle can sleep under the covers every night.
10. Humans must ask permission to sleep under the covers with the beagle.
:)
It is remarkable how much space one small beagle can take up!!!!! You move her, but she takes over once again!
Imagine our (late) old yellow lab clamoring up onto the bed. She'd take over the entire thing before the night was through. If you tried to push her with your feet, she'd just get heavier and not move.
My old mini-poodle was a great lap warmer while I read.
You need to turn your heat on unless you have a wood stove, and then a nice fire would be good.
Aw,Dogs are so awesome! :)
Hope you are warmer now.
Look at those FRECKLES! How cute! Bless her little heart...it's not her fault that she's spoiled! :)
There is something so special about dog people!! I love your beagle....I haven't had a dog in two years after 30 odd years of having them...and yes they were in bed with me.... I do miss that!! Again you make me chuckle....oh weak one!! hahaha!! Good for you.
When I lived in Maine, Kate slept on the foot of my bed. Imagine, she was close to 80 pounds of Rhodesian Ridgeback. Nice against the feet on cold nights. Often, during those years, there were two big yellow tom-cats, one on either side of me because they couldn't stand to be next to each other. I had to wake up to roll over, very carefully.
