desert island mememememe

I ask myself, and you: what would you need on a desert island? Let's imagine the island is very self-sufficent: about a hundred acres with a nice high hilltop with a clean and dry cave, a nice little beach and cove, plenty to eat and no mosquitos. Heaven, in fact.
SO: who do you want to join you, 5 people, what do you want to do to occupy yourself (sorry, anything but TV or computers, mostly), and you are allowed a fridge full of your favorite beverages which would be______

---5 people: 1) my wife! 2) Penny the beagle! (sorry my other pets, but your aunt Emily will move in with you and spoil you back in New York) 3) Paul Newman, I bet he'd be fun to talk to everyday--I'd say George Carlin too, but I bet he would get irritating 4) George Clooney--they say he is a fantastic host, really easy to get along with 5) Lynda from art on a limb, cause she is smart and hers is the last blog I looked at before writing this and I bet she would be extremely good company for all of us
---what do you want to do to occupy yourself: man, I want a load of clay and complete pottery studio, drawing paper, writing paper, and a weekly subscription to the New Yorker magazine, dropped by parachute---if I can't have that, maybe stone carving tools to try out the whole Easter Island tiki thing
---a fridge full of your favorite beverages which would be: OH JOY!!!! BEERS!!! RED WINE!!!! LEMONADE!!!!!!!!!!!! if I have to limit myself? those pub draught cans of Guinness would work perfectly...

OK, hey, it's your chance, weigh in here or at your blog! Everybody's tired and bored and workin' for the weekend, so think about this!

(25 out there this morning, a good chance to try the new black parka.....)

Darn my logicalness! :) I would want power for my fridge too. I'm glad to see we can resurrect people to go with us! That makes the people choices easier.

My 5 people would be; 1) my wife, 2&3) Steve Irwin (the crocodile hunter) because there is nothing that he couldn't handle plus his wife (because he'd get lonely), #4 Samuel Langhorne Clemens (Mark Twain) because Steve Irwin's excessive perkiness and physicality would bore us after awhile, and #5 Jennifer Love Hewitt because Mr. Clemens will need a muse and she also seems to be a very capable and creative woman (acts, sings, dances, entertains).

As for things to do, yes, the same types of things. A outfitted shop, both for clay and metal smithing work. An extensive library, writing materials, and painting supplies. We would need a good source of materials on the island as well (wood, clay, metal). With a good shop, we can make everything else we would possibly need. The one problem I see is renewable energy, so we'd need a nice waterfall for hydroelectric, and we can save the wood for kilns and such, otherwise (like the Easter Islander's) we might deforest the place.

In the fridge; That is a tough one. I would reserve the fridge/freezer for ice cream (from our island cows). Fruit juices (available on the island) would be ample refreshment.

Excuse me, I need clarification...when you say "25 out there" what do you mean? 25 what? 25 people? 25 cars? It can't possibly be 25 degrees. Its only October! Its going to get up to 90 here today. Not braggin, I hate hot weather.

All I would need on a desert island is the man of my dreams (haven't met him yet) and my iPod.

All we would need is each other and lots of gin and lemon.

Lemon????? Barbaric! LIME!
Crafter--I agree about the Irwins, but due to their intensity, I think they could have their own cave on the other side, and we could get together every day, otherwise he would be a little too much fun.
Jennifer Love Hewitt.....maybe I am going to have to revise my list...she, um, seems very capable, I agree....
Barabara, YES! 25! Every morning all week. My mom up the road had 19 degrees----all of this is entirely ordinary, as is the snowflakes we had the other day. What kind of place do you people live in where it is 90 in October???? Isn't it in the 20s in the morning everywhere?????

I am honored! I will be back to pick my peeps - my phone won't quit ringing. Can you believe I have to WORK here? lol

Uh, Gary... you know what always happens to Kenny, right? Of course, he does manage to come back each time, so maybe it's not such a bad deal after all...

I'd have to think long and hard on the 5 people, because you'd want to have just the right mix. Other than that I'd want lots of seeds so I could garden, paints, books, books, books and maybe that would be a good time to learn how to knit? And I think I'd choose a nice white wine if I was limited to one drink. Anything else I think I would get tired of after awhile. Or maybe vodka.

Happy friday -

My five people would be: 1) My husband, Jerry - he's very smart and very funny 2)My brother, Darren. We just mesh well. 3)We can resurrect, right? My grandmother... I miss her every single day 4)My friend, Janette...once again, smart and funny and 5)My child, Nicole...but she'd really need to bring a friend so she wouldn't drive the rest of us crazy.

Things to do? Books, books, and more books. Also, drawing paper and tons of pencils and pens.

Drinks? Big Red, Diet Pepsi, ice cold water...maybe a few adult beverages as well.

The missus has a lovely scarf.
The rest? Too much thinking for me.

25 is not that cold, nor do you have snow down there yet. No snow where I am either.

I'm not into wearing my 'winter' coat yet, which would be 0F or -18C.

Desert Island, hmmmm. After awhile people whom you don't know all that well become difficult to deal with. One would definitely need a project to keep them going and sane. Guinness in cans sounds heavenly.

Interesting that you chose clay as something to do and that's what you do daily! Nice to see someone who loves his work! You are blessed.
We're in for rain for the next 4 days!! Snow can wait.

I second Barbara...25 isn't cold.

I have to think about the people I would want...there is only one cave? Definitely need books....lots of books and tools.

Ok, my 5 people would have to be my family (damn we have a lot of kids). I want to bring the dog as well, can I?

Art supplies and an endless rotating library of not crap. My beverages would be: beer, wine, gin and tonic (when not pregnant) and water for now.

Sounds a lot like my life now except no island, ocean or warmth.

No computer? Really? Eff that, man, I ain't goin'.

5 people? Hummmm.
1.Jimbo - of course.
2.My best pal, Neil.
3 & 4.Our best pals, Frank and Al.
5.(My Dad, my Sister, My Uncle, Grandpa. My old pals, Hank, Ronnie, and John. And of course my old dog, Emma!) The ones in () have moved on to the spirit in the sky - so I'm including them as 'one'...lol

In my fridge! Absolut, seltzer, lime. Water. Iced tea, unsweetened. Cigarettes (I keep them in my fridge, so they count!)

Items I'd need: My books, cameras, photographs, writing materials (which hopefully includes at least a typewriter and paper!). A metal detector (I've always wanted to walk the beach, with one). Maps, lots and lots of maps. Beads and leather string. And lots of other stuff that I can't think of right now...

I am starting to think, actually, that we might need to toss out paul Newman on my island and replace him with Jennifer Love Hewitt. We might need a, ah, ghost whisperer. Hope she remembers her bikini.....
