Decision 2008:

I think some questions and some eras define us. I have strong opinons on the issues, and I bet you do too. When you think of 70s male soloists, are you an Elton John fan or David Bowie?
I am sure you are aware that Elton John people are NOTHING like Bowie fans. Check in, make your vote count.
(thanks to my neighbor HP, or Holley for getting the ball rolling here)

Elton, Tiny Dancer

Oh, now this is too difficult. I graduated HS in 1977, so I am a true 70's gal, but not sure, for me, that these two were the "only" two to choose betwixt. I really "got" David Bowie, but never bought his albums. I did, however, have a number of Elton John's (and still do). Major Tom/Rocket Man? I think I'll take the rocket. But, I was really a James Taylor gal.

So that kind of wipes out the whole survey.

Elton John. All the way. David was okay and all. But, Elton is a super hits wonder!

I like Sweet Baby James, but let's get back to Elton/David. Both pop singers from Britain in the 70s, both flamboyant.

Love the pottery

I'm an Elton John fan from wayyyy back. Would rather listen to his music than just about anything else.

In the 70's, I really liked Elton, now, not so much. I have ALWAYS, and still do love me some Thin White Duke! So, I guess I am BOWIE!!!

David Bowie has always been too weird for my tastes. Elton John sings Crocodile Rock; he wins!! ;)

Depends on my mood. If I want to dance, Bowie. If I want to sing at the top of my lungs, Elton.

You see? There are sharp divisions in America.

Who wants to guess where I might weigh in?

And thanks new visitor Linda!

See, I like them both, but a little bit of Bowie goes a long way. I'd have to vote for Elton.

Elton had some great music and all but Bowie is a supreme being. Give me Ziggy any day.

Sigh.
I thought it was obvious: SIR ELTON IS NOT FIT TO SHINE DAVID BOWIE'S SHOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Elton John, ick.......

to explain---Elton is just everywhere--the grocery store, the radio, EVERYWHERE--simply overplayed, no matter what I may have thought years ago....

I'm a HUGE BOWIE GIRL! But I'll tell you what... Almost Famous is one of my favorite movies... and Tiny Dancer is a very poignant part of that movie... so my heart is Tiny Dancer... but BOWIE ROCKS!!

And although I was barely born in 1980, my mom introduced me to REAL music (the '70's) and I tell you what... I was meant to live in that decade, orange shag carpet and all. :o)

And I'm going to Neil Diamond in December... hee hee!

If it's a choice between Elton John and David Bowie. I'm with you. Bowie has a certain non-schlocky something.

What is wrong with liking both? They were both very outrageous performers in the '70's, and both have mellowed.

ELTON JOHN HANDS DOWN!!! That from a Canadian....I loved him since I was 11....I think he was an indy artist at that point!! Fun survey!

Can't stay out of this any longer - EJ is way too poppy for me and modern love is a poor example of Bowie's brilliance. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is one of the greatest albums of all time!
