wwc diamond and one and pottery in action

(le Mister und le Missus, cookies and starfish plate by Gary Rith)
Kind of interesting story, but first: Tink's weekly photo challenge are diamonds and one.
So the story is this. Back in 92, just before we got married, my mom asked if the missus would like our beloved great-grandmother Tete's wedding band--a thin floral patterned gold ring. Inside it said 'AR to EL 1914' and we added 'GR to MH 1992'. When you think about it, that means the ring is nearly 100 years old today. Later my wife's aunt asked if we wanted the plain gold band which had belonged to my wife's grandmother (who must had HUGE hands--her ring fits on my larger ring
finger) and it says '4-8-24 something something' and our dates, but all of it is worn and impossible to read----I take off my ring every day to work and pocket it, and I think that has worn the etching inside.
The engagement ring with large diamond and smaller had been my wife's other grandmother's, and her grandmother gave it to her to wear. After her grandmother passed away 2 years later, the smaller wedding ring that was matched to the engagement ring was found in a bureau drawer. So the missus wears 3 rings, and I wear one, all of which are pretty old family things.

In dream news, I know you 're waiting for that, not as evenful as it could be. First dream had us moving to Indiana to be closer to our bloggy friend Mary Lee, who comments here as Mary Lee and ML and she is the sweetest and it would be fun to live close to her. In the 2nd dream, I was antique shopping all night and didn't spend anything, which is true in life lately: I don't feel like spending anything, the economy is so iffy.

And yes, thanks for asking, on my side of the family, aside from a little Welsh, Hungarian, German and English, I have large doses of Irish ancestry as many Americans do, but mine is both Irish Catholic and Irish Protestant which seem to coexist happily within me.

"In Dreams"
Roy orbison

A candy-colored clown they call the sandman
Tiptoes to my room every night
Just to sprinkle stardust and to whisper
Go to sleep. everything is all right.

I close my eyes, then I drift away
Into the magic night. I softly say
A silent prayer like dreamers do.
Then I fall asleep to dream my dreams of you.

In dreams I walk with you. in dreams I talk to you.
In dreams youre mine. all of the time were together
In dreams, in dreams.

But just before the dawn, I awake and find you gone.
I cant help it, I cant help it, if I cry.
I remember that you said goodbye.

Its too bad that all these things, can only happen in my dreams
Only in dreams in beautiful dreams.

such interesting history. those antique rings go well with your antique pocket watches.

maude could be a hand model. she should seriously look into it.

The rings are beautiful! Maude's rings are very similar to mine. Don't you just love the history they hold? And Gary, the turtle and worm cups are great!

Rings are symbolism, but the stories they each hold and the stories that are told are the best!
Glad to see you back in WWC action, Gary! :)

This is a sweet post. I love the stories of the rings.

I haven't worn a wedding ring for about 3 years - I fell and jammed my ring finger, which swelled so alarmingly I had to cut off my ring.

It was no great loss, since at the time we married, we were so poor we ended up buying $40 wedding bands from a store in a mall.

But every once in a while, I think we should get nice rings, now that we've been married over 20 years.

Ah, man! Don't even talk about it, Gary! HOw I'd love to have you guys close by here! Or me close to you! What a treat for ME, that would be. But I'd probably have to ask the government for a loan 'cause I'd spent all my money on your work and now was destitute. Do we have a 'poor farm' any more these days? And for my Grandma, the late Mary Daly! "Erin go Bragh"! And a happy St. Paddy's day to one and all.

Ooooo - I could tell some ring stories! I've got all my rings from my ex's in a box! lol!

Hey - I should have had them appraised when the price of gold was high! Hummm - is it till high? I'll have to check! ;)

I so love family rings rather than new ones! They're gorgeous, the ones on your wife's finger :-)
