Gary blows up a bottle like a balloon!

(Gary and his finished bottle)
So one of those challenges of throwing pots is making a sphere. Some people throw to a certain point, dry things up a little so they don't collapse, push the walls some more, dry things up a little so they don't collapse and then continue. You can also shove a stick into the pot, keeping the opening narrow, and one way to get that extra fat look?????? You PUT YOUR LIPS DOWN ON THE POT OPENING AND BLOW! Like a balloon. That pot up there above is the one I am working on in this video.

Awesome, indeed! I'm still sitting here, mouth wide open. I had a bottle like that once upon a time which my youngest child finally beat me out of. He loved it! But it looked more like somehow it had been poured around an already blown up balloon and then when dry or at least in the leather stage the balloon was popped and taken away. I suspect it was made somehow to look that way because it even had the little puckery opening like on a blown up balloon. Any ideas? I've been puzzling over the how of it for years.

I wanna' see how you finish out the neck and mouth of the bottle. You know what else I'd like to see?

I'd like to see you blow one up until it pops! I bet that's funny *giggle*

:-)

potters watching this might roll their eyes and say I could have done much the same by more pushing out with the stick, but NOTHING looks cooler to the unsuspecting public than blowing into a pot

FW--I spend a lot of time fiddling with the neck and rim and I'd be nervous with people watching, BUT OK next time!

That was pretty cool. I do have to admit that I thought the thing was going to go boom though. Which would have been fun too. hehe

Okay. Everyone's been wondering but nobody's been saying anything. It must be asked: Do you ever find the process of making pottery...um...sexual?

Very cool indeed. I love the goatee created by the clay. It quite suits you. :)
