Babar and me

(elephant sculptures by Gary Rith)
I don't think these are good photos, but you get the idea. People ask me if I am a Repulican, with all the elephants I make (HOHOHO!) but it goes back to Dumbo and Babar with me.
I like making mother and child animal sculptures, which confounds my manly, anarcho-punk, childless self. Makes no sense TO ME, but I like to make them and they are cute.
In this case, you see a finished and fired elephant and clown I made a few years back, and when I saw this Babar ad, I wanted to make a baby elephant riding its mama, which I hadn't made for awhile.

I like the mama and baby elephant. Mama pig with her brood is one of my favorites. And no, I am not overly partial to pigs or elephants...but I am a sucker for mamas and babies...

I've only met a few people in my life who had as big a "thing" for elephants as I do. :) Mama and baby are quite wonderful, and I suspect I will be writing you about adding a pair to my own ele family soon. teehee!
