le seal teapot

(Gary Rith contemplates the next move)
So yesterday Christi was over and I was making a teapot and I started thinking and wanted to make an OVAL SHAPED teapot which I hadn't made before, so I whacked it on each side while wet then I threw a big loop handle for the top. And I was thinking, hey, maybe it would look better with a loop on the backside instead? So I made that and figured I would try them out, as you see here.
THEN TODAY I also figured I would add four feet to the teapot bottom but changed my mind and WHACKED it into four feet instead, and decided on the backside hoop handle and then I was like WHO GOES ON TOP???? And was gonna do, as my instinct so often tells me, a piggy on there, then I was thinking elephant until I decided to make something different but wicked cool--a seal :)

I love that you're whacking your pottery. I was hesitant to whack my pottery at first, but found it to be stress relief.. so now I whack my pottery all the time. }:)

nice teapot! the swoop of the spout echoes the nose of the seal.
