beagle cup, beagle haiku

In honor of this cup and my beagle beastie, I wrote a little haiku. And in case you were wondering, YES, that was me racing out into the backyard early this am, in my bathrobe and bare feet, to quiet my barking dog....

Noisy beagle barks
Six a.m.? Foggy bunnies!
My neighbor pissed....

CURVE

You absolutely LOVE the band Curve and the awesome Toni Halladay. I don't know of any music videos from the band for this tune, and this dude took HELL ABOVE WATER and asked his sister to act it....she does a great job. The brother claims she wasn't topless. Would be kinda creepy if she had been....forget all that and enjoy.

Beagle Cam.....

Kind of a weird day. Just a little.
So we need a little beagle cam cuteness, and maybe a quote:
"Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible."--Doug Larson (whoever that is)

who am I?????

Not fishing for compliments, but who do you think I am?
A blogger recently told me a number of things about myself, which kinda don't match the whole picture. But probably match the tip of the iceberg you get here.
Whaddya think, can you please go to comments and tell me 3 impressions you have of me???
(who do I think I AM? A reclusive and shy person with a wicked sense of humor. That's 3. Your turn.)

the chef speaks: potato burritos

Down a post or 2, under Bowie, from last night, I showed dinner, Chez Gary.
I always woooed my lady with food. She is TINY, but she eats like a horse----just one of those people.....
The first time she ever came to visit my apartment and meet my cat, in 1991, before we dated but 2 years after we had first met, we made Christmas cookies and frosted them. I hooked her good....

So, potato burritos????? Seems like an odd idea doesn't it? Tres delicious though, as potatos are good any old way.
When I was a teacher at Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind in the early 90s I had a classroom assistant from Mexico. She was awesome--my adopted auntie. But she explained that in Mexico people don't eat (as Americans do at Chilis) stacks of chicken and steak burritos covered with cheese. Folks are poor and eat more simply, veggies, beans, potatos with tortillas. Hard to believe something so authentically Mexican is rarely heard of here. This is what I do:

Potato burritos

-start oven at 400
-in casserole baking dish toss about 5 small-medium red potatos (they are little, you know?) thinly diced with a couple of spoonfulls of oil and bake 35 minutes
-in your fry pan, saute onion, red pepper, carrot, then after a few mins toss in a can of black beans and some diced tomatos and diced (soy in my case) sausage, and as much hot peppers and hot sauce as you like--heat for several minutes until cooked, then cover and set aside
-when the potatos are done, turn off the oven and pull them out
-lay out your 6-8 big tortillas and fill each with potatos and beans and fold and roll, placing them snuggled into the casserole dish
-cover with cheese(I use vegan rice cheese)---the oven is still hot, don't turn it on, let them sit in there for about 20 minutes

Dump burritos onto plates, cover with salsa and lettuce and EAT oh boy!
It is really quite simple :)

mmmmm...BOWIE

KEEP THE LADY HAPPY

I am married to a beautiful and sweet woman. I DO NOT take it for granted. I worship the ground under her feet. I love her dearly and never tire of asking what I can do for her.
If we are talking baked goods, she prefers my home baked triple chocolate cookies. If we are talking dinners, she has 2 favoites of mine: the pizza that I make (she had that the last 3 nights) and my potato burritos. That was tonight. And with some leftover for her lunch tomorrow.
Lately, in addition, she has been digging Cape Codders. Who wouldn't? Lime, cranberry and vodka???? So cold and tasty when it is so hot and humid.
I was looking for matini glasses. Wegmans had them 8 bucks each. The kitchen store? 20 bucks each. I went to Salvation Army: 4 wild, not exactly matching, martini glasses for two fifty TOTAL........

le DRAGON!

Funny how you suddenly find you have all these friends in Houston. A New Yorker like me might be a little surprised by that. But, for example, I shipped a stack of pots to Houston today to one nice lady, another nice lady in Houston is thinking about some bunny things and ANOTHER nice lady in Houston sez
"if you can do dinosaurs, can you try a red dragon or two? Like the cute statue here????"
and I am like
"yeah, I'll give it a whirl"
and so I did.
And I start to think
"man, when its cold and stinko here in the winter, my family should hit the road and go to HOUSTON which would no doubt be gorgeous...."

This tough guy is goin' to the grocery store and doin' the laundry!

the coolest man in showbiz...

I can say absolutely truthfully that I have never seen a Michael Jackson video and I have not heard most of his songs.
Those days? When MJ was famous? I thought MJ stood for Michael Jordan, and
I was listening to this dude.....

what a CLICHE!!!!

OK, so we drive beautiful country roads on a nice summer day and I spy:
-over 70 horses on
-over 5 horse farms
-countless multi-colored cows (no pigs though)
-and one Audi TT convertible

Holy shirt I love that car. I want to strip nekkid and climb inside and ....

and so I realize? A minute ago? Guy in his mid-40s, convertible sportscar????
No. I am having no midlife crisis. But what is it about dudes in their 40s suddenly falling in love with German roadsters????? With cloth tops?????

Dig the missus digging the pizza I made. I forgot that I had already dumped jalapenos on it when I added two spoonfuls of hot chili-garlic sauce.
:)
DELISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

of skulls and artists....

This putz covered a skull with diamonds and it sold for 100 million bucks. He's the same dude who chopped a calf in half and put it in a tank, ditto a shark (more or less)

On the other hand, there is ME. I made this cute little teapot with a smiley little skull on top to make you laugh and keep you company....

me and Carrie go WAY back

SO, here she is, Carrie. YES, Carrie. I mentioned recently that the first crush I had in sixth grade (there were at least five crushes that follwed that year) moved from New Zealand to our town recently, what kind of coincidence is that? Wicked cool. We had a lot of the same classes together for years, in middle school and high school, then in the early 80s, obviously, went seperate ways.
Carrie was and is a totally lovely person and it has been a treat for me and the missus to get to know her again.
And my beagle Penny is a beastie, but you knew that.....

Rev. Awesome and the miracle of blogging

(Painting and drawing by Kasey, also known as Rev. Awesome, mugs by Gary Rith)
So you meet bloggers in cyberspace and trade jokes and admire each other's artwork and tis quite amusing.
Kasey made the drawing of the owl mug and emailed it to me. She is an artist and graphic designer in Iowa, and it seemed like a great idea, and my mugs look good. And I sent her one in thanks.
And lookit what she sent in return, yeow! An owl painting!!!!! I AM SO EXCITED!
Isn't it gorgeous and cute?
