The missus wanted to defend Spike. She is holding him at a more flattering angle so he doesn't look so immense.
Mary was asking who Felix the Cat is. A cartoon hero! First in the 1920s, then on TV in the 1950s and again more recently. When I was little I watched the rerun cartoons of the 50s. I love his peppy can-do attitude and the particular way he is illustrated. My Hero!

Oh, that's nice of Maude to give Spike another chance at looking skinny. Still, he's a pretty big cat. Asti is similarly huge, and missing the fur on her belly that she drags on the floor. :)
Our cat, Louise, loves to bulk up for winter. With the cooler temperatures she has begun the eating every 5 minutes routine to put on the winter fat.
