(Le apple bread, by Gary Rith)
My mom makes pretty good apple bread, but I have improved her recipe greatly. For example, I add APPLES to my apple bread. I also cut a lot of corners so that it comes together quickly.
Preheat to 350, grease 2 loaf pans for medium loaves or one loaf pan for One gigantic loaf.
In large mixing bowl melt 7 tbs margerine---25 seconds
Add 2 eggs, whip it good with your spoon!
Add 2 cups apple sauce. whip it good with your spoon!
Add 1/2 cup sugar, stir like crazy.
Add 2 cups flour, 1 teas baking powder, 1/2 teas baking soda, a few shakes of cinnamon, stir like mad with your spoon!
Stir in either one enormous apple or 2 small apples plus at least 1/2 cup nuts.
Divide into the two pans and bake about 4045 minutes--until toothpick is clean, or if making one gigantic loaf, bake about 55-60 minutes.
YUMMO!
In other important news, I dreamt that I came upon the scene of a murder in the woods and found the murder weapon, an axe!!! :::brrrr::: horrible.
Prior to that I had seen the little hamster, who backed out of the corner, under the shavings and looked at me. We aren't close, but we are there for each other.
Gary~Yummo is right.Looks good.Hey did you get snow last nigh,or is that an old pic?It sure was freezing down here.No snow though.
ReplyDeletethat was night not nigh LOL.
ReplyDeletemmmmmmm! that looks/sounds sooo delish! I'll have to omit the nuts, of course, since they'll kill Wifester, but I'm sure it'll still be tre` bien!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!
ReplyDeleteHey - I did a doubletake at your new header and then had to glance out my back door. No snow - whew!
You are a trickster!
"4045 minutes"? Damn, that's a long time!
ReplyDeleteMmmmm ... Apple bread ...
ReplyDeleteI have that same scarf, Gary. ;-)
I'm not a fan of cooked apples in things, but this sound fabulous. I especially like that it seems to have less butter and sugar, but probably loads of flavor with the apples and apple sauce!! I know a good recipe when I see it!! I may even try it with different fruits....thank you for sharing!

Clue: Mr. Hamster. In the woods. With an axe.
ReplyDeleteThe apple loaf sounds and looks yummy!
Looks SOOO yummy!!
ReplyDeleteThe pic on the header is January, 2007. It is a bit of a trick! Our back yard in winter with the river and the ducks is very pretty, snow or no snow.
ReplyDeleteIt was snowing for about a half hour while we walked the dogs at 7---the worst: sloppy wet flakes and rain and wind. Really cold and wet.
Ummmm..4045 minutes and it's not even burnt! Wow.....who knew! lol
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw yr new pic at the top, I thought..."Holy sugarbabies!!!" ...already??!!
Glad to read it's from a while back..
I've got to make that bread! I'm growling now.
This will be great! I bet the kids would eat it hot for breakfast in the morning! And, we have a cold [cool] front coming in!
ReplyDeleteOh Happy Day!
best line? thanks Cheri, but I think it would read better with one more comma, now that I look at it again!
ReplyDeleteBAKE away everybody! And I have been told that men who cook are HAWT. I am therefore HAWT every dang day....
Hilary's comment:
ReplyDelete"Clue: Mr. Hamster. In the woods. With an axe."
AWESOME.
Gary, you tricked us. Here I was thinking you actually had SNOW. If I'd recalled your forecast correctly, I would have known it was a trick.
Now I've been called out on my love of snow. Rats. (Or is it Hamsters??)
Note to self: must try this recipe
ReplyDeleteI have the perfect hand-made wooden spoon to whip it good. ;)
You should SO have a cookbook!
ReplyDeletelook at all those comments!
ReplyDeleteI seem to be finding all kinds of yummy recipes today. This is going to be great with the homemade applesauce...I can't wait to make it!
I refuse to believe that is snow from today in your header! I refuse! LALALALALALAL... I can't hear you!
ReplyDeleteBut that apple bread - oh my god. I can't wait to try that with some honeycrip apples! Thank you so much for sharing the recipe and not being a blog tease with just pictures. I might have had to come to New York and hunt you down and HUG you or something. ;)
Hey Gary,
ReplyDeleteGreat recipe... Werner and I are having guests over for brunch on Sunday and I'm thinking your apple bread might be a nice accompaniment to the main meal! We'll see how motivated I am to make it :-) Thanks for being such a gracious host on Sunday. We really enjoyed checking out your sweet pad and playing with Penny & Buster! We’ll have to have you guys over some time to meet Seamus and Roxy.

P.S. I like your music video selection—no Kate Bush, though… What gives?
OH! Kate Bush, yes indeedy....wonder if she is cousin to......
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THAT BOWL! THE BLUE AND WHITE SPECKLED ONE!
ReplyDeleteI almost jumped out of my chair, Gary! I used to have two bowls exactly like that! One was more shallow and larger (like a pasta bowl) and the other one was just like yours!
THEY BROKE!!!
Did you make that bowl???
Can you make more???
I missed the murder and hamster part...gasp! Maybe you should take Benadryl? Then you can dream in full color!! With glass stairs, pulsing color lights, and everything!!!!
ReplyDeleteMakin' the bread in the early mornin!!!!! YAY!
